The Lady Be Good

Ghost of the Sahara

Found in 1959, but not visited until 1960, the Lady was a time capsule of 1943 wartime drama. In the 16 years since her disappearance, she sat alone in the sand sea of Northern Libya. Untouched by the native Bedouin tribes, she retained all of her defensive weapons as well as all of the equipment and parts of the B24D.

The Fate of the Lady Be Good

In the years since the Lady was re-discovered, souvenir hunters, vandals and the U.S. Military have all wreaked havoc on the remains of the aircraft. The current whereabouts of her remaining wreckage are unknown. At one point, she was moldering away behind the police HQ in Tobruk. In 2011, a photographer visited the crash site and documented the continuing deterioration of the Lady. Libya fell into political upheaval shortly thereafter and the remains of the Lady vanished again.
